Set Your Pup Up For Success

From little paws to big strides, our positivity-based training programs guide your furry friend through every stage of development.

Puppy Socialization — Drop-In Group

Our positively precious puppy socialization group allows parents to desensitize their puppies to the world around them — instilling politeness and confidence right from the jump!

These educational moments include meeting new people and dogs, making healthy connections, getting comfortable with car rides, socializing with other dogs, learning to be independent, and so much more.

Experience the magic of early socialization as we help your puppy blossom from an energetic furball into a balanced and well-rounded canine companion.

  • Socialization is a critical aspect of a puppy’s early development — it involves exposing them to different stimuli to build their confidence and reduce the likelihood of fear or aggression as they grow older. The primary goal of this Puppy Socialization Group is to help puppies develop into well-adjusted and confident adult dogs through:

    • Positive Exposure: Puppies will be introduced to various sizes of humans and dogs, sights, sounds, smells, and surfaces to build their confidence and reduce the likelihood of fear-based behaviors.

    • Social Interaction: Puppies will have supervised playtime with other puppies, promoting healthy social skills and appropriate play behavior. This helps them learn bite inhibition and proper social cues.

    • Handling and Grooming: Gentle handling exercises will be conducted to acclimate puppies to being touched and groomed, making future veterinary visits and grooming experiences more enjoyable.

    • Handouts and Parent Education: Crate training, Nipping, Potty Training, and Chewing.

    • Direct Guidance: Owners will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance on common puppy behaviors, training techniques, and problem-solving.

    • Health and Safety: Information on puppy health, nutrition, vaccinations, and general care will be provided to ensure the well-being of your puppy.

    • Class Participant Minumum: This drop-in group requires a minimum number of RSVPed pups to be active week to week.

    • Age Requirement: Typically for puppies between 8 and 16 weeks of age

    • Vaccination: Proof of up-to-date vaccinations required

  • Groups are offered on an ongoing basis at Indian Tree Animal Hospital in Arvada, Colorado.

Outdoor groups at Chatfield Veterinary Hospital in Littleton, Colorado will reopen in May, 2024.

Understanding the Basics — Drop-In Group

Designed with busy pup parents in mind, this ongoing drop-in group emphasizes the fundamentals of behavior shaping during a puppy’s precious and impressionable early development period!

As the natural next step after socialization, this Understanding the Basics group guides parents through basic commands, cues, and positive reinforcements to create a strong behavioral foundation for a confident life and continued obedience training.

Watch your pup progress through controlled play, clear communication, exposure to stimuli, and more — all on a schedule that works for you and your family.

  • Early development refers to the crucial time, typically between 3 and 14 weeks of age, when puppies are most receptive to new experiences.

Our Understanding the Basics drop-in group is designed as an opportunity for puppies up to 16 weeks to establish a positive foundation for appropriate behaviors. By working with this impressionable time period, puppy parents can address behavioral issues and learn the necessary communication skills to help prevent reactivity, aggression, and other fear-based complications through:

    • Controlled Group Play: To develop and improve social skills, supervised group play can promote motor skills, coordination, and healthy confidence around other dogs.

    • Continued Exposure: To build on the foundation of confidence created during socialization, puppies will safely progress through exposure to new environments, stimuli, and dogs to encourage well-adjusted behavior.

    • Basic Commands: To establish a baseline of communication and behavioral shaping, parents will learn foundational commands and cues from sit and heel to stay and spot.

    • Polite Greetings: To ensure your pup maintains confidence and politeness in public settings or populated spaces, we’ll establish a baseline for appropriate greetings when meeting new dogs and people.

    • Handling Exercises: To further the progress made during socialization, this drop-in class integrates further handling exercises to gently accustom puppies to being pet, touched, and handled.

    • Handouts and Parent Education: To help integrate new behaviors, commands, and human-pet communication guidelines.
